Driving through Coromandel

Unsealed roads, dolphins, camping on the shore

Kauaeranga Valley

Last night, we camped at a DoC-site called Threstle View, in Kauaeranga Valley, just east of Thames, on the Coromandel peninsula. A beautiful spot. After a small walk, we pack our stuff and cruise along the west coast of the peninsula to the north.

Small island

We take it easy on the unsealed roads and stop frequently along the way to enjoy the scenery. At a certain point, we see dolphins playing around a family in a kayak. It's an amazing sight and we just sit and watch for at least half an hour.

Port Jackson

At the end of the day, we reach the northern most point of Coromandel, and we stop at Port Jackson, a very nice campsite right on the seashore. We meet Ernest, a very friendly South African bloke living in Auckland, who gives us some very nice snapper he caught earlier today. Hmmmm, fresh fish!
