One of our guides on 'Eua showed us a small cave that had several human skeletons inside. They couldn't tell us very much about it, except that the skeletons had been there for a very long time.
Our plane, landing on 'Eua
Our plane, I think it was an 18-seater. A torn off piece of scrap paper with two numbers written on it was our boarding pass.
Banana's at Sela's guesthouse in Nuku'alofa. We spent several days at Sela's place because Willemijn was ill. Fortunately, Sela and the other people working there were extremely friendly and helpful
Our little room in Sela's guesthouse. Basic but perfect. It was about 30°C day and night
Flying to Ha'apai, the island group north of the main island. They call this "the Tonga of the past" and it is very, very laid back. The runway of Ha'apai's airport (another dirt strip) has the island's (only) main road crossing right through it. When a plane lands, they close the road and chase the pigs off the runway
We spent a couple of days on Soni's Captain Cook hideway on the Ha'apai island of Uoleva. No running water, no phone, no electricity. Unfortunately Gert couldn't enjoy it that much because he was ill.
Uoleva
Our 'fale' ("house" in Tongan) on Uoleva
dogs and piglet
Ha'apai's islands are flat, sandy and covered in palm trees.
